Gary Shogren (Seminario Esepa, Costa Rica) has written an accessible and informative commentary on 1 & 2 Thessalonians (ZECNT). It is also distinct among commentaries for two reasons:
(1) Shogren stands among few commentary authors who wrote as an active missionary, providing a cross-cultural perspective on the implications of the gospel and culture. This unique experience gave Shogren “a 3-D picture of how these epistles affect the Church…and how they are supposed to teach us.”
(2) Shogren’s limited access to theological libraries apart from his own forced him to study the Bible first before adding other commentary perspectives. It was only after writing the initial draft that he visited libraries in the US to supplement what he found in the text with other high-value material.
After watching his video I think you’ll find these twin distinctives highly beneficial, especially after engaging this helpful commentary yourself.
